Week 17 - Life in Bernburg Week 12: Life in not Bernburg

I GOT TRANSFERRED! I'll be heading to Cottbus on Wednesday. I'm both excited and really sad, but I know that I'm heading where the Lord wants me to go. It's actually really cool, Präsident Kosak (The old mission president) lives there, so I'll get to meet him. Elder Mayer has worked a lot with my new comp, Elder White, and he says that if we don't get along he'll eat his hat, so that puts me a little at ease.

Other than that this week didn't have that much happen. Jagnesh and Herr Schultz were both out of town, so we had almost nothing in the way of appointments.

We did get to do a few fun things, though. On Thursday we got to watch the two younger Liebau children for a few hours, and it was really fun. I was just ending a tausch with Elder Hansen, so we had all four Elders in our district there for a little while. The problem was mainly that both of the children alone have more energy than all four of the elders put together. We still had a blast with it, though.

On Friday we got to be in charge of an Aaronic Priesthood activity, so naturally it turned into pizza, ping pong, and kicker. After we had done some Pflicht vor Gott, of course. We had a really good time with them, and I'm really going to miss them.

Anyway, one more week of the mission done, enjoy this picture of Elder Mayer that I snuck from across the room, one of my district, and one of Elder Mayer being a pizza boy.

Week 15 - Life in Bernberg Week 10: Freiberg and Back and Back and Back

This week Elder Mayer and I were both sick, so we tried to keep ourselves inside as much as possible. Unfortunately, you can't really do missionary work inside, so we spent a lot of time outside anyway.

Now I want to tell you a story about Jagnesh. So, he hasn't been to church the last two weeks, even though he really wanted to. I’m going to tell you why. First of all, when we got into contact with him again, one of the first things that he told us was that he was going to be at church on Sunday. We met with him two days later and he told us the same thing. We were super excited, but on Sunday he never showed up. We couldn't get ahold of him for a few days after that, so we assumed the worst... he wasn't interested in meeting anymore, or something happened, and he was just done. I mean, we had just got back into contact with the guy and we already couldn't reach him again... we were really sad. But then on Tuesday, we got a phone call from him and he told us that his neighbor, who doesn't speak any English or German, had some complications with her pregnancy. He had gone with her to be a translator for the brunt of 5 days. Poor Jagnesh leads a crazy life. After this we worked on setting him up a ride to church with a member who drives by his apartment, just to make it easier to get there.

We had been planning a trip to the temple, so once we had reestablished contact, we invited him to come. The way we buy tickets, his only cost 5€, but we left at 9 in the morning and returned at 8 in the evening after only spending one hour there. It's kind of a big trip. However, he said that he would love to! We had an amazing time with him, there is a pair of sisters stationed there to do little temple tours, and they did an amazing job. They really helped to clarify to Jagnesh what the purpose of temples are.

When we got home at 20, we were trying to set up a ride home for Jagnesh, but there was a concert of some description in Bernburg, so everyone we called was unable to pick us up. Jagnesh said that there was a bus coming in an hour, and he needed to do a little shopping at a store by Bahnhof anyway, so we were good to go. So off we went.

At church the next day, the members showed up without Jagnesh. They told us that they had waited and waited, and called him three times, but he didn't come out. Once again we had lost contact, and he wasn't at church! Thankfully it didn't take nearly as long to hear from him this time, he called us that night and told us that his bus hadn't ever shown up, so he had to walk (poor man told us Freiberg was the first time he had seen snow and it was cold that night), he ended up getting home around midnight. When he got there there was a big party going on, so he couldn't really sleep. After a couple of hours this party escalated into a fight, in which the police came, and several people ended up in the hospital.

We're really hoping that this week we can once more get Jagnesh to church, the poor guy. It's really hilarious, but hopefully his life will smooth out eventually.

In addition to travelling to the temple, we also traveled to the temple! On Tuesday, we had Zone Training Meeting with the Temple zone all the way down in Freiberg again. Due to bad weather and some other unforeseen circumstances (apparently there was some kind of bomb from WWII found somewhere around Leipzig, I can't research as a missionary, but if anyone decides to, send me some details!), the train connections and whatnot were absolutely awful. We had tons of trains fall out, too, so I spent the better part of 25 hours on trains this week. It was pretty rough.

Anyway, other than the events, this week was uneventful. That's usually how it goes. So for now, much love, and pictures.

Week 14 - Life in Bernberg Week 9

It's been a long, annoying week for us. It sufficeth me to say that
there were some hard decisions made, but we followed the Spirit and
everything worked out all right. Also, my love and respect for Präsident
Fingerle has grown immensely.

In other news, we are making good progress with Herr Schultz and we
got in contact with Jagnesh again!

He got a throat infection while he was in Munich, so he was stuck down
there and couldn't even talk, so he couldn't call us. He's back again
and as excited as ever! I really love this guy.

Outside of that, we gave out three Books of Mormon this week, and
we've just been staying busy as usual. I got a haircut today, too! No
more Turkish cut.

I finally got a picture of my new district, Elder Hansen is the Swiss man in the middle.

Personal study is so much better when it involves cookie dough!

And I finally got some new name tags, now I can wear them everywhere!

Anyway, I love you guys!

Week 13 - Life in Bernburg Week 8: You Know it's New Years in Germany

Sorry, friends, It's a little late, but have you a Christmas card! We made these, and they're wonderful. The picture on the bottom is my favorite. (The middle says "Wir sind noch am Leben!" which means "We're still alive!" We thought it was necessary to mention.)

This week was once again fairly uneventful (Christmas and New Years kill missionary work), hopefully soon everything will be up and running again.

We however, had an amazing New Years. The Germans do it right. Sadly, the videos we took are a little too big to send in an email, but do yourselves a favor and look up "German New Years Fireworks" or something on youtube. It's ridiculous.

We also had a meal with Familie Zimmerman yesterday, and they gave us two more "New Years Gifts"

At the party with Schwester Eissing Elder Mayer asked Bruder Zimmerman how one comes into posession of a Deutschebahn tie (Bruder Zimmerman works for Deutschebahn, and the ties are part of the Deutchebahn uniform) as a joke.

They gave us each a tie! Elder Mayer Frohed himself pretty hard, I still don't get the big deal, but apparently every missionary wants these (and apparently I'll need to guard it from future comps).

We then proceeded to take a fashion shoot for Christmas, so enjoy the pictures!

Man, I don't think I'm capable of taking a bad picture...

I really like this picture, we look good...

Yep, It looks good in Black and White, too.

These pictures are so great, feast your eyes on our fancy German/British fanciness!
